William (Bill) C. Roll, Jr. is the Founder and President of Roll Group International (RGI), a private consulting firm based in Dallas, Texas and Co-Founder and Senior Partner of Advanced Training Solutions (ATS), a private consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. Bill's third-party transportation and logistics background includes over ten years of combined military and transportation intermediary experience. Leadership roles in Sales & Marketing and Truckload Freight Brokerage Operations presented the opportunity for the creation and development of a transportation training firm.
Bill graduated in 1986 as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Appalachian State University, in Boone, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Bill is a veteran of the first Gulf War and spent 9 years of active duty service as a United States Army Infantry Officer. Bill's non-command positions while in the military were government transportation intensive to include managing transportation movements of men and equipment via highway, rail and air both domestically and internationally. Bill currently holds the rank of Major in the U. S. Army Reserve as a Training and Operations Officer. Bill is a Zig Ziglar Certified Training Instructor and has consulted with both large and small companies including the United States General Services Administration (GSA), Turnkey Logistics, Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks, and
Brooke Transportation Services along with several regional motor carrier companies ranging from owner-operator to over 200-tractor strong fleets providing services in both the United States and Mexico.
Bill was the founding Educational Director of Transportation Training Solutions and the primary instructor for the school from its inception until the end of 2003. The curriculum he wrote is still being used by the training school today and through his efforts the school became a Texas Workforce
Certified training institution. Prior to the creation of Transportation Training Solutions (originally Brooke Transportation Training Solutions), Bill was the curriculum developer and lead instructor for Transport Training of Texas, an affiliate of Transport Training of America based in Mobile, Alabama. Some of Bill's curriculum was incorporated into the current curriculum being taught at TTA today.
Bill has experience in selling third-party logistics services to small companies with revenues under 1 million dollars as well as to large companies with revenues in excess of 1 billion dollars and all types and size companies in-between. Bill has experience in locating, negotiating and dispatching dry van, flatbed and refrigerated motor carriers throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada in both Truckload (TL) and Less-than-Truckload (LTL) shipments. Bill has project management experience with maritime import container shipping from Europe, warehouse operations management from inventory management to pick and pack operations and intermodal (ship-truck-train) operations.
Bill has been trained by numerous supply-chain and transportation leaders including Transportation Intermediaries Association, the Institute of Logistical Management, Landstar Carriers Systems, and North American Logistics. Bill has received numerous awards and certificates throughout his career including twice recipient of the United States Army's Meritorious Service Medal and the Honorable Order of St. Barbara. Bill has led and facilitated training, seminars and workshops in the military, private commercial and governmental agency settings in the United States, Asia and Europe.
